“What can I say about opportunity?” My speech class was running out of ideas. It seemed as if we had exhausted every kind of persuasive speech. It was starting to feel as if we had exhausted all of the ideas in the universe. We sat around our various computers, brainstorming. Then we all hit it at the same time “Goal Setting!” Our shouts reverberated through the room. We discussed the various steps and each of us reviewed the traditional methods of planning and also found some downloadable guides to the most effective ways to set goals. We found templates and step by step plans and some software that would actively remind you about where you needed to be in the overall plan and advice to help you deal with adversity as you worked towards your goal. Then we decided that we would set our goal as the speech itself, and then lay out the individual steps.
