So, I've been having carpal tunnel-like symptoms. I went out and got some wrist braces, and we'll see how this goes. I don't really want to go to the doctor, especially since they'll probably be unable to do anything. Anyone else dealing with it? Any advice? I've been trying to avoid things like heavy lifting, but that's rather impossible to do in this field. It's just not fun when my hand goes numb randomly and I start dropping things. :(

It could be any of those other major nerves in your arm. Could also be a rotator cuff related issue. Just a couple of thoughts.
There is an entire group of doctors here in Houston with a surgical suite that are making truck loads of money off of this problem.

We've got a decent hand center here, too... no matter what it is, the odds are they wouldn't be able to do anything but surgery to fix it. And I don't want surgery. Though, I hear they treat it with a local anesthetic... I wonder if they'd let me watch the procedure. Maybe I could help, and save money on the labor part of the bill?

Not even watch? Not even a little? Bah.

When I had my ingrown toenail cut out, the doctor actually told me he was nervous working in front of a paramedic. Thats when I told him that we don't do this kind of stuff in the field, but I offered to show him a tip on drawing up his syringe. :hehe:

Yes, I have problems with it. Years of sitting in front of a computer. :(
Wear your braces at night when you sleep. It seems to help. It also keeps you from curling your hands up while y ou are sleeping which only aggravates the problem.
One of the best things you can do is find a chiropractor that knows how to do the maneuver for carpal tunnel. It really works! It HURTS LIKE HELL but it really works. They hold your arm at the wrist and they run their thumb along your forarm while turning your arm sharply. It is supposed to make the tendons and such release. It REALLY HURTS when they do it and your arms will hurt like hell for the rest of the day but then it just goes away. You might consider trying that if you can find a chiropractor that knows the maneuver.
