I may have the spelling of the state wrong but if the government gives free reign of 62 billion to the government of Louisiana to spend without accountability, I may have to rebel when it comes time to pay taxes. There are so many articles being printed about the corruption in that state's government, I can't believe that anyone in their right mind would want to just give money to them. I know I'll get some flack, but we need some new fodder anyway!!!!!!

Somehow, I knew that you would have to bring that up. Yes, He's "my" president but he's also yours and "you" will have the same taxes "I" do. I don't think the federal government will be stupid enough to give them carte blanche , but in politics, anything is probable. I have hopes that everything will be taken care of in a neat and tidy package without the corruption factor coming into play. It's ok to dream, right???

The bad thing is that I will have to pay those taxes a lot longer than you will have to, unfortunately. ;) :respect:

I don't believe you said that! Yeah, you're gonna catch hell for that remark from me!!! Yeah, Louisiana has corrupt government. No more than the next state, we're just stupid enough to brag about it. BUT you can't hold the citizens of this state responsible for what the government does. Yeah, we elect them, but we're not responsible for what they do/don't do. We did put a former governor in prison for his wrong doing. Do you realize how many people in South East Louisiana lost their homes and everything in it. It could have been us. We're only 40 miles from New Orleans. Anyway, New Orleans and the state of Louisiana contributes more to the United States than Mardi Gras, good food, and bon temps roulet. :bang:

Yeah, you spelled Louisiana properly. I'm not mad, just a frustrated citizen of Louisiana. This is not the citizens' of this state's fault. And I'm sorry that our fellow citizens of the United States feels "responsible" for having to rebuild southeast Louisiana, but we did the same thing for the big earth quake that hit San Francisco, and how many times has the federal government had to rebuild Florida. You can't help natural disasters, all you can do is protect the ones you love and get the hell out of dodge. I've been ducking and fearing hurricanes my whole life. No hurricane parties where I come from. Just mopping up horizontal rain from the windows and doors of my childhood home and parents calming the fears of their children when they were scared and worried themselves. Luckily, I have always lived 60 miles from the coast. But hey, wait a minute, at the rate our coastline is eroding, I could have beach front property in 10 years. Oh, that's right. I forgot. That's Louisiana's problem.

RMurphy: I really didn't mean to dis the people of Louisiana, I guess the way I posed my post, it was designed to stir up some reaction and find out how other people felt about your situation. Like I said "new fodder". We, up here in the safe country, definately feel bad about all the woe that you face. If I were in a position to be down there helping, I would in a heart beat. My comments about accountability are being echoed by a lot of our government officials. We as taxpayers, are the ones responsible for those funds and yes, corruption is all over, not just in your state.
