Had a patient the other day, apparently the hospital tested her blood, and the number they got for her alcohol content was 600-something. Anyone know how this converts to percent?

I believe it goes to blood alcohol of 0.600.

I saw a man walking (with assistance) and talking with a BAC over 5. I was quite impressed.

Wow. She was neither walking, nor talking, nor doing a whole lot of anything on her own. She was far, far away in a happy place.

I haven't seen a BAC of 5 but I did transport a college kid that had a BAC of 4.5. The state trooper that arrested him had to go on another call as we began transport, but he called me later to get the BAC. He couldn't believe it. He said that he had never seen anyone over a 2.

This kid wasn't walking or talking either, he was also in a happy place.

yah i've been BAC's in the 650's.....never trust a breathalizer they can give either really high or low readings, BAC'S are much better.

I've never had a lot to do with BAC or had to work around people who drink to excess. I guess I can consider myself lucky. Only one that I can remember was a guy that got arrested for driving under the influence, when asked why he was driving after drinking so much, he said he was too damn drunk to walk home.

I live in a small community of 2600 people and I am a volunteer. I work 1 weekend and 1 week nights. Usually not that busy. If we have a drunk driver, it's usually the result of an accident and most of the time they don't tell us what the BAC is or was. Our community has friendly drunks. I lead such a sheltered life!!!!!

Hell Ray, I am from the area Gary is from although I don't know him or where exactly he is from but I grew up in South Central Illinois in a town of 700 people and on a good weekend, half of them were drunk and driving around. Guess they were so bored they didn't have anything else to do. Of course, where I live now, beer is a food group. :D

The city I live in, the hardware store burned down about 5 years ago. Lone behold, the fire department is right next door to one of the local bars. http://bestsmileys.com/drinking/6.gif Once the pagers when off, there was a steady stream of guys from the bar to the fire department.....I would have sworn that half of the fire fighters were drunk while fighting that fire! http://bestsmileys.com/drinking/4.gif

OK, that's not good. When I filled out my application for the fire department, there was a question on it that asked if I was alcohol dependent. I kinda chuckled thinking about some people I know and their habits. Well, the one lady looked at me and laughed and said "Honey, if you're not now, you will be once you're in".
