The Denver Metro Area is a great place to be a EMT or Paramedic. The protocols are very liberal (for an urban system) and a majority of meds and procedures are by standing order. A fully promoted FireMedic (2-3 yrs) can make from $55k to $65 annually. Fire-based EMT's start around $34K and max-out at about $55.

For those of you interested in working for a "Fire Based" agency in the Denver Metro area, check out "www.DRCOG.org" and click on their link that says "FIRE".

The Denver Regional Council of Governments (DrCOG) represents about 15 fire based agencies. They offer written tests twice a year and passing grades are kept available for one year. The departments just pull from the list whenever they need to hire. And I know for a fact that several departments will be hiring off the list in 2004.

Most paramedics who pass the test will get several job offers. With EMT's, it really depends on what the agency is looking for in a candidate. College degrees and firefighting certifications/ experience (volunteer or career) are usually a plus.

Hope this helps. I'll keep my eye on this post, so feel free to ask questions.
