Hey everybody! I'm a new member here and I'm in training. I am almost through my EMT-B course and have state exams coming up. If anyone knows of any good resources to help prepare, let me know.
I would have to suggest you pay a visit to your local book store or school's book store to see if they have any exam prep books. The exam prep books are great for getting you in the "testing" mood; but you'll have to review your skills and your state's DOT standards as well as the national standards.
(All of which is usually covered in most review books.)

Thank you. I've been studying the Brady Emergency Care 10th Edition (our class text), using the workbook for it that I found online and using their web site so much that my brain is fried. I know that I have a week and a half to prepare, but that doesn't seem like it's enough time. My instructor used to be a state examiner and is telling my partner and me not to worry about it, we'll do fine, we're in the top 4 in our class, but we both are stressing about it. We just want to get it done, over with, and as perfect as we can make it.

I understand your stress. I stressed pretty bad before my Basic exam. I felt like I had so much information thrown at me that I couldn't possibly remember it all.
I bought this book to help me prepare and I wholeheartedly believe it helped a bunch. I made photocopies of the answer page and then would go through each test several times until I improved my scores. Many of the questions on my state test were worded exactly the same or similar to the questions in this book.

If nothing else, I believe it helped me focus and it helped organize all that info in my head. :D

Very well put; I too did the same thing. I know it sounds bad, but you've reached the point of you either know it by now or your not going to know it in time for the test. What you want to remember is to cover all the "little" things that you covered throughout your class.
These can leave you stumped in the middle of a test as you struggle to remember the answer.
Relax though; if you've done well on your clinicals and feel that you have a good general understanding of the EMT-Basic material you'll do good.

Thanks guys. I know that I know the material and I feel confident that I'll be certified, but I just want to do the best. I want to get the highest score that I possibly can and know that I deserve what I get. I don't want to be the Emt who scored a 71% and is still unsure about things. I want to be the one at the top who knows what they're doing. I just want to be the best I can. Thank you!

Thank god for the other groups this was only our prerec, (our class final to take the state), cause we were the only group to pass the CPR station.

yeah, it was pathetic. I knew we would be at the top of our class, but I didn't realize how big the gap was going to be.

Don't ask me how, but some how my entire class got it's s*!t together and passed the state practical last night. It was ridiculously easy though (not a whole lot of thought - unresponsive vehicle ejection, stoke, and CPR - not a whole lot of treatment to be done). The head examiner brought us candy. I think it had something in it :hehe: cause by the time we were done we were wound tight. ;) So all that's left is 2 days of written exams...sigh...i'm actually gonna miss this class... :( i know, i'm pathetic...

After we took our final we all went out to a local bar to celebrate with our instructor. :( I was not 21 at the time.

Yeah, well. I'm 21, My partner's 30, there's one guy who's 30, our instructor is 47, and out assistant is 22. Everyone else is underage. We are going to rent my grandparents backyard and have a cookout next weekend after we finish our written exams. That way we can all go and those of us who are of age can drink if we want.
I'm the youngest paramedic by 6 years at work. I'm one of two that doesn't have children.

hey, at least you didn't start too late. And trust me, not having kids right now is in your favor. I've got 2 and it's hard to try and find balance. I'm broke, emotionally drained, and exhasted by the end of each day. My relief, i'm sorry to say, is going to class and going on my ride alongs. Working is my outlet. I love my kids, but it's tough. Don't rush it by any means. I want to have my paramedic and my nursing degree around the same time my daughter starts school. It's gonna be real tough.
Kids + Leather = Bad  :hehe:
