View Full Version : Lets See Your Rig!

Well, I figured I'd make a post so everyone could show off what their rig looks like since there are so many different shapes, sizes, and paint combinations.

We are getting rid of our boxes due to the narrow streets in the Pasadena/South Houston district, the lack of ability to hire people who can actually navigate them, and cost. (Van's are cheaper.) Not thrilled by it, but I'm not willing to give up my raise either. ;)

After a fall out with Wheeled Coach, we have switched to AEV who seems to make a better ambulane. (The WC keep having electrical issues.) I'm currently on Medic 10, a Wheeled Coach that was built in early 2004.

It was kind of hard going from a box with a lot more supplies to a van that doesn't even have enough room to fit all of our stuff. (We do both 911 and transfers here.) Part of us going to vans is to get the paramedics onto squads and their equipment off of the truck so that we run BLS & ALS (EMT-I) trucks and than the paramedic responds with them to all emergencies and all paramedic level transfers.

I'll admit, I wanted to play with my digital camera and had some free time at work yesterday. :D

Umm... Isn't the stairchair supposed to be where the KED and C-spine bags are?

Stairchair... :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

Your a very funny man. They won't get us any, we lost the one we had with our box. We call the FD anytime we need one, they also have a scoop too.

I'm not thrilled with it, but in Texas you don't have to carry either of those.

I can put them on a back board and lower them down the stairs in a worst case, but then I'd need rope and we don't have any of that.

I hate the stairchairs we have here. The back isn't high enough to tape a uncon pt's head to.

Here's the ambulance we use for rescue here. We don't transport but we are currently upgrading to providing ALS care.

It's Rescue 361.

And the company that I work for here's the vitrual tour. Granted I don't believe it's been updated in a while since ours is a 2004 model.

The title of this post terrified me after the topic of the JEMS post... :hehe:

I'll see what I can do for getting a pic up.

Good lord- the FDs hate us enough as it is, I can't imagine what would happen if they had to do all of our stairchairing for us!

Scoop... I can't decide if I want one or not. They're good and all, but there's only room for 2 boards or 1 board and a scoop. If I use my board, I wouldn't have one when I left the ER. I don't like the idea of being in service without a board.

but then I'd need rope and we don't have any of that.

2 lengths of 50 feet each, required by the state. Whether the truck we're assigned to has it or not is somewhat hit or miss.

RescueYou42, I'm drooling over that one too... I'm gonna work on getting pics of both my med and decon rigs tonight (plus side is we just got a new rig for decon, minus is i'm leaving in two days and won't be here to break it in) but oh well, it'll be nice to get stateside again for a while (gods i can't remember the last time I saw an ambulance painted RED!!!)

Good lord- the FDs hate us enough as it is, I can't imagine what would happen if they had to do all of our stairchairing for us!

They can hate me all they want, I'll still wake them up at 3:30 AM to help me carry someone down a flight of stairs. Their sleep is not worth my back. :p

Scoop... I can't decide if I want one or not. They're good and all, but there's only room for 2 boards or 1 board and a scoop. If I use my board, I wouldn't have one when I left the ER. I don't like the idea of being in service without a board.

Granted, I wish we could still carry a scoop. We carry two boards though. In our old box we had a plastic scoop, four boards, and 8 spare 02 cylinders. Now we carry one on the cot, two under the bench, one in the vent.

They said we didn't use a scoop that much...funny, I used it four times in December. ;) I've considered removing that back rest pad and putting it there. (You'd just have to remove it every time you wanted under the bench.)

2 lengths of 50 feet each, required by the state. Whether the truck we're assigned to has it or not is somewhat hit or miss.

Well we carry webbing (length) I have no clue. We also have spider straps, they prefer for us to use those over webbing. Their thinking is any "rescue" work would be rigged by the fire department. (Which is volunteer, so there is no gurantee you'll have someone there that knows what they are doing.) On my shift I'm the only one that has ever actually built a rigging system.

I would like to get some actual rope for the truck because there are so many times when it would have been easier to lower a 300 pound patient on a back board down the stairs instead of watching the FD try to manage her down the stairs.

They go through everything here when you want your state cert. for the ambulance and no one has ever said anything about needing rope in addition to our webbing. Then again it is Texas.

So you work for ETMC eh?

They are here in Pasadena, we subcontrat for them. Get paid more than their paramedic supervisors too. They have some nice toys down here though. Most of the guys are nice, I just wouldn't be a paramedic there for what they were willing to pay. We had a guy come to us after only making $10.20 an hour as a paramedic with 14 years under his belt. :o I've heard they treat/pay their crews up there better than the ones down here.

We are also in the city right next to them, South Houston. We call you guys the 7 UP EMS. :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

They are both older photos, we have replaced the bix red boxed ambulance with another blue one. Also picked up a third one. Have to see about closer photos......gotta take the digital to work one day.

Still have it, still use it. Mostly just pulls duty at the race track during the races and it also pulls our disaster trailer. Nothing better than a chevy 350 gas ambulance.

Nate
03-03-2005, 15:33
Wow, I'd hate to pay that gas bill. Can it gove over 70?

hageremtp

Downhill with a 35 mph tail wind, pulling that trailer it will make 85, but you put your life at risk as the thing shakes apart.

Nate- don't hear much from the people down there. So far we're the busiest system ETMC has in Texas. Don't know about pay, most of us were hired from Rural/Metro.

I try to correct the people that call us 7-Up people. I tell them we're Park Rangers! :)

Nate
03-05-2005, 13:11
Yeah, that is how it was down in Pasadena, most of them were RM people. They didn't stay long, they got tired of ETMC BS and left for Gold Star (Glaveston County) or came to us at Bay Star (Webster/Pasadena/South Houston/Baytown) and a few went to Cypress Creek and other services.
